Illustrated title page: Kiko with his backpack looks up at a heart-shaped map of the Philippines with a jeepney, a kite and his smiling Lola.

Meet Kiko & Lola

Kiko, a six-year-old boy with round glasses and a green backpack, smiling with excitement.

Kiko

He's six, and he's on a mission: the food, the islands, the words, the stories — everything Filipino, one page at a time.

Lola, Kiko's grandmother, with grey hair and purple glasses, laughing warmly.

Lola

Kiko's grandmother. Whether she's beside him or on a video call, Lola helps him find the words, the food and the stories from home.

Lola (LOH-lah) — grandmother
