Our website is for adults

Our books are for children, but this website and our emails are for parents, family members and educators. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us their information, email us and we'll delete it.

What we collect

  • Email signups: your email address, your first name if you give it, which list you joined, the date, time and IP address of your signup and of your confirmation, and your consent to receive our emails.
  • Email activity: our email service records whether our emails are delivered, opened or clicked, so we can see what's useful and remove addresses that no longer work.
  • Messages you send us: your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write in your message.
  • Website visits: our web host processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies or tracking pixels on this website. If that changes, we'll update this notice first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

How we use it

  • To send the emails you asked for, such as book launch news, sneak peeks and book offers.
  • To reply to your messages.
  • To keep a record of your consent, as Canada's anti-spam law requires.
  • To keep this website and our email running securely.

We don't sell or rent your personal information.

Service providers

We use a small number of companies to run our website and email. Each one handles personal information only to provide its service to us, under its own security and privacy terms.

  • Cloudflare hosts and protects this website and processes technical information about visits (such as IP address and browser type). Our signup form runs on Cloudflare, which passes your details directly to MailerLite; we don't keep a separate copy on the website. Cloudflare also forwards email sent to [email protected] to our inbox, and keeps a short delivery record (sender, recipient, time and delivery status).
  • MailerLite stores our email list and your consent record (including signup and confirmation times and IP addresses). It sends our confirmation and newsletter emails, and records whether they are delivered, opened or clicked.
  • Google (Gmail) hosts our business inbox. Messages you send to [email protected] are forwarded to and stored in our Gmail account, and we reply from it.

These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union, where it is subject to the laws of those countries and may be accessed by their authorities. To ask about this, contact our privacy contact above.

How long we keep it

We keep your signup details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. After you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record (your email address and the date you left) so we can honour your choice and meet our legal obligations.

We keep emails you send us, and our replies, for up to two years after our last exchange, so we can follow up and keep a record of our conversations. We keep them longer only if we need to for legal, tax or accounting reasons (for example, records of a sale or business arrangement, which Canadian tax rules generally require us to keep for six years). When we no longer need them, we delete them.

Your choices

  • Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing [email protected] or writing to Tiempo Press, Unit 204, 10111 Fraser Avenue, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 2E1, Canada.
  • If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the privacy regulator responsible for your situation. Depending on the circumstances, that may be the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Contact us if you'd like help working out which one applies.

Changes

We'll update this notice when our practices change and show the new effective date at the top of this page.
